Representative Joe
Miro is currently the President of
the National Hispanic Caucus of State
Legislators (NHCSL). He is also a member of
several organizations and serves as an
Executive Board Member on the Council of
State Governments (CSG) and National
Conference of State Legislators (NCSL).
Representative Miro’s life in public service
began 37 years ago after graduating from
Lincoln University with a degree in Liberal
Arts and a Master’s degree from West Chester
University. He began teaching in the
Christiana School District in Delaware and
taught there until 2001. His career in
politics began in 1992 when he was elected
as New Castle County’s Councilman
representing Delaware’s 3rd District.
Representative Miro continued to hold office
as a Councilman until 1998 when he was
elected to the Delaware State House of
Representatives.
While in office, Representative Miro has
been an active voice calling for an
increased focus on education. To achieve
these goals Representative Miro has joined
many associations that promote better
education for the nation’s youth such as the
Delaware State Education Association, and
the American Association of Teachers of
Foreign Language. Representative Miro has
also been a very active member of the
Hispanic community by being engaged in
organizations such as the NHCSL, the Latin
American Community Center in Delaware, and
as a member of the Governor of Delaware’s
Advisory Council on Hispanic Affairs.
