NHCSL President Speaks To
Labor Groups
San Antonio, TX – Today at a Labor Council for
Latin American Advancement (LCLAA) luncheon,
Assemblyman Felix Ortiz (NY), president of the
National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL)
encouraged the audience of more than 300 to work
in partnership with the labor groups.
At the luncheon, Assemblyman Ortiz also issued a
recommendation to his colleagues to form labor
roundtables that will engage the participation
of community leaders, trade unionists from
around the country.
In his remarks Assemblyman Ortiz also encouraged
the audience to reach out to the younger
generation of activists and help them attain the
accomplishments of our labor leader role models
such as Linda Chavez-Thompson, Executive
Director of AFL-CIO, Dolores Huerta, co-founder
of the United Farm Workers, labor leader and
organizer, social activist and the late Miguel
Contreras, leader of the Los Angeles County
Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO.
The LCLAA event was the 16th National Membership
Convention themed “A History of Service, Latino
Workers United for A Stronger America” held in
San Antonio, TX this week.
