NHCSL SIXTH NATIONAL SUMMIT
-Policy Perspectives for Hispanic America...Empowering State Leaders-

Las Vegas, NV – Members of the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL) convene this week at its Sixth National Summit where over 100 Hispanic state legislators, corporate executives, educators, government officials, policymakers and other state and local elected officials will come together to discuss the state of Hispanic America and the Hispanic national agenda for 2009. The Summit is scheduled for November 13-15, 2008 at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.

NHCSL Summit agenda will include a presentation of the election results and the impact of the Hispanic vote; sessions will focus on NHCSL’s policy priorities in the areas of education, economic development, health and immigration. In addition, the country’s housing crisis will be addressed during NHCSL’s Housing Symposium. The Immigration Debate will be addressed this year from the perspectives of both neighboring countries, Canada and Mexico, “Immigration issues are at the forefront of our agenda and are a policy priority for NHCSL, we welcome the opportunity of hearing from both the Mexican Consulate and the Canadian Consulate representatives and we look forward to working together as we develop new policies toward comprehensive immigration reform” stated Representative Miró, NHCSL President.

The 2008 John S. Martinez Excellence in Leadership Award will be presented this year to Puerto Rico Senate President, Kenneth McClintock, “Senator McClintock is an outstanding example of leadership in Puerto Rico, in our organization and in the U.S., we are honored to have him as a member of NHCSL” stated Representative Miró. The Excellence in Leadership Award is presented annually to a Hispanic legislator who embodies passion, dedication and great achievement throughout his/her political career.

The Summit officially begins on November 13th with the John S. Martinez Golf Outing, which was developed to help young high school students who aspire to have careers in politics. Onsite registration opens at 1pm on November 13th and a complete agenda is available at www.nhcsl.org
