NHCSL ANNOUNCES NEW PRESIDENT
-Delaware State Representative Joe Miro to be Sworn-In on November 17-
Washington, DC –Delaware Representative Joseph E. Miro will be sworn-in as the new president of the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL) on Saturday, November 17 in Miami, Florida. The swearing-in ceremony will be held during the NHCSL 5th National Summit and Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio will deliver the Oath of Office to Representative Miro.
Hispanic state legislators from across the country, corporate executives, educators, policymakers, and other national, state and local elected officials will be in attendance. Representative Miro will serve a two-year term as NHCSL president.
Representative Miro’s life in public service began 37 years ago after graduating from Lincoln University with a degree in Liberal Arts and a Master’s degree from West Chester University. He began teaching in the Christiana School District in Delaware and taught there until 2001. His career in politics began in 1992 when he was elected as New Castle County’s Councilman representing Delaware’s 3rd District. Representative Miro continued to hold office as a Councilman until 1998 when he was elected to the Delaware State House of Representatives.
While in office, Representative Miro has been an active voice calling for an increased focus on education. To achieve these goals Representative Miro has joined many associations that promote better education for the nation’s youth such as the Delaware State Education Association, and the American Association of Teachers of Foreign Language. Representative Miro has also been a very active member of the Hispanic community by being engaged in organizations such as the NHCSL, the Latin American CommunityCenter in Delaware, and as a member of the Governor of Delaware’s Advisory Council on Hispanic Affairs. He is also a member of several organizations and serves as an Executive Board Member on the Council of State Governments (CSG) and National Conference of State Legislators (NCSL).
